can not open display through ssh


When I try to run firefox, I get the following

user@box:~$ firefox

(firefox-bin:8344): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
user@box:~$

Try doing

ssh -X hostname

I did, but once I'm logged in, I got those messages.

I had this same issue and it worked by adding the -Y option when initiating the ssh connection.

Code:
ssh -X hostname -Y
note that you have enable X11 forwarding on the ssh server in order for this to work.
