hello!...
I am a newbie.I hav installed suse 9.1 on my comp.I tried to compile c and c++ programs using gcc,cc,c++ and g++ commands but it was not working. Is it because the commands or the compiler itself is not installed?.What should i do?.Can anyone please help me out?...
You need to tell us what "not working" actually means. If you get "command not found" errors, then yes, that could be because you don't have the compilers installed and you should install them via the package manager. FYI, I think SuSE 9.1 is several years old and so might not get security updates to packages. If that is the case, it'd probably be a good idea to upgrade to a newer version.
I wil get a newer version ASAP.But can u please tell me how to get the packages u were speaking about?..would you please suggest the best linux distribution educational purposes?..
Thanx

If this is SUSE 9.1 Personal, then you probably don't have any development tools (the Personal version used to ship without them). Your best bet is to give openSUSE 10.3 a shot.
