can i mount my home partition read only?


I'm concern about websites downloading stuff to my hard drive without my knowledge. will linux only me to mount it as read only?

Of course websites download things to your home directory: cached html and images, cookies, history. If your home directory is not writable then there are many programs other than browsers that will also be astonished.

You can of course mount /home read-only, but the vast majority of your programs will stop working, including your web browser. You might not even be able to log in to the system.
