Can't read term window

Well, I have been trying to get Blackbox to work, but with little success and now a new problem. When I open "X-Terminal" (what XFCE calls it) the window is black. It appears to be working because when I type exit, it closes. But I can't see what I type. I have no idea where to find the setting for this. I must have inadvertantly changed it somehow. If you have a suggestion, I am in lost.

I figured it out. I don't know why, but it wouldn't display in 8bit color. But it works fine in 16b.

Maybe this will help someone else.
