Thank you Electro!
That was helpful!! [edit] setting LogLevel to debug2 [edit]

I've ended up getting printing to work on my ubuntu 6.10
I had a symlink from /bin/csh to /bin/bash...... left from previous tries.
Reinstalled the works (cups brlprmfcxxxxcn cupswrappermfcxxxxcn)

On my debian box print-jobs are now vanishing.
No more time right now; definitely will be back for more.

Hai all,

Well it works.
Don't ask me why. My best guess is a new version of cups. This could have something to do with this?
(/usr/share/doc/cupsys/changelog.Debian.gz)
Code:
cupsys (1.2.7-3) unstable; urgency=high

  [ Kenshi Muto ]
  * removed STR2137 patch. This patch corruted some
Postscript files. (closes: #403703) This was a release
    critical bug.
  .........
installed software:
cupsys 1.2.7-3
libc6 2.3.6.ds1-10
gs-esp 8.15.3.dfsg.1-1

My /etc/printcap
Code:
# Default handler

MFC5840CN:\
        :mx=0:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/MFC5840CN:\
        :sh:\
        :rm=192.168.123.109:\
        :rp=lp:\
        :if=/usr/local/Brother/lpd/filterMFC5840CN:
My /etc/cups/printers.conf
Code:
# Printer configuration file for CUPS v1.2.7
# Written by cupsd on 2007-02-04 12:24
<Printer DeskJet-930C>

Thanks to all

Updating cups to 1.2.7-4 fixed my problem too snotty69.

INFO:

my printcap file is /var/run/cups/printcap and looks like
Code:
# This file was automatically generated by cupsd(8) from the
# /etc/cups/printers.conf file. All changes to this file
# will be lost.
