Can't Log in as user into x

I can can log into the GUI (KDE) with my root but not with any users. I tried setting up new ones and I get the same thing. I put in the password and then get kicked back to the signon screen (Knoppix 3.2).

It used to work. I am not sure what I could have done. Any suggestions? It seems to work fine as root and I can get into the user w/o the GUI.

Thanks

I had the same problem in Gentoo.
Try killing your login manager and starting X from the console so you can get a more accurate reason as to why it won't load as a user. Perhaps our two problems are like.

I did that and there were all kinds of errors. What is the easiest way of getting those errors into a text file so I can cut and paste them here rather than writting them all down?

Thanks

I believe there's a program you can install that lets you use a mouse cursor in a console for copypaste. Otherwise, not sure.
