Can't install java8 ;'oracle-java8-installer - 8u171-1~webupd8~0' seems not to contain wgetrc.

'sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer' installed the most current version of the Installer, but failed to install java8 giving because wget could not be configured:'wget: WGETRC points to wgetrc, which doesn't exist. The file does, in fact, exist, but it's empty.

How can I find a copy of the missing wgetrc?

Working with the wget and wgetrc documentation won't give me the information to create a wgetrc file without knowledge of what needs to be done with java8 to install it, or without a great deal of time learning these two dense utilities.

Thanks.

Hi Newish,

Welcome!

The package is probably broken on oracle's side. Until they fix it, try installing from source: https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/doc....html#BJFJJEFG

Thanks, AwesomeMachine,

Your suggestion is simplicity itself. I'm going to wait to attempt it for two reasons:
1. When I read the instructions provided by Oracle on the site from your link, I read, '...to the location where you would like the JDK to be installed...' which scares me because of the complexity of the Linux file system and possible interactions with a still functioning JRE. And...
2. I think I have bigger fish to fry. At the same time that the JDK issue of this thread demonstrated itself, I found an issue with my updates to my Linux Mint apps and system that is duplicated with new installation attempts using the Mint Software Manager. This issue will require a new thread and may be related to this thread, though the events could simply be coincidental.
