Can't get my keyboard shortcut to work (debian)

I want to use the Control + windows key on my keyboard to do a killall firefox-bin. What I've done so far is gone in to gconf-editor, and under apps->metacity->keybinding_commands I made command 1 as killall firefox-bin and under global_keybindings, run_command_1 I have <Control><Super_L> . What am I doing wrong?

I believe that the windows key is another modifier key. In other words, I think you need to have an additional key registered in this combination. perhaps <ctrl><windows>k or whatever does the trick for you.

Good luck!

On ubuntu 8.04 I was able to do exactly as you describe to get Windows+E (which we must learn to call Super+E ) to run Nautilus. Researching before trying it suggested it might not work -- but it worked fine. From the log:
Code:
Metacity (Windows+E to open nautilus showing /home/c/d/)
gconf-editor→apps→metacity
 	global_keybindings
 		run_command_1: <Super>E
 	keybinding_commands
 		command_1: /usr/bin/nautilus /home/c/d/
Tested OK.
Either the key combination or the command is not working for you. Maybe change the command to run a noddy script that creates a file so you can see if the key combination is working.
Code:
echo '#!/bin/bash
touch /tmp/my_test.out' > /tmp/my_test.sh
chmod 744 /tmp/my_test.sh
and then change the Metacity config so Super+E runs /tmp/my_test.sh as evidenced by the creation of /tmp/my_test.out. Good to test /tmp/my_test.sh from the command line first so you are confident it works -- and then delete /tmp/my_test.out!

So for the script, in the keyboard command area, how do I write my keys? <Super>E ?
