Can't download codecs or players

I recently installed yellow dog 6.1 onto my Sony ps3.
Why can't I open or install any codecs that I've downloaded?
VLC player downloaded from internet.
K-lite downloaded from burned disk.
Can't open them.
Can't run them.
Can't install them.
Why, why , why?

How have installed them? How have you downloaded them? Why not post as much information as possible?

K-Lite is a windows codec pack as far as I remember. Could it be you also downloaded an .exe file for VLC?
