Can't conect to interner withx external ADSL modem in Mandrake 10.1
I have Intracom Jetspeed 520 ADSL USB/Ethernet external modem, and i cant connect to internet. I used this rp-pppoe-3.5.tar.gz packet. When i finished configuring it didnt worked. It wrote down "Timed out". What could be the problem? I think that it would be my modems fault because maybe Madrake doesnt suport them. Icouldnt find any drivers for this modem. Please help me anybody.
INTRACOM's jetSpeed 520/520i is a compact external ADSL network terminal device with both USB and Ethernet interfaces, therefore ensuring connectivity to all types of new and legacy computers. Furthermore, jetSpeed 520 encompass DHCP client and server, NAT and RIP functionalities, which effectively transform the unit from a simple bridge into a powerful router.
This is a standalone unit for Internet connection, certainly it can be configured to connect to internet without any help from computer. No drivers needed. RTFM.
What i have to do ? I dont uderstand? Change configurations ? But wich and what woul i have to write insted defaut values ? I saw these conficurations, and its to complicated to me. Can you give some specific information or could explain.
Well... I haven't seen this modem and cannot give you step by step instructions. Probably you are OK with default settings. All you have to do is to select connection type PPPoE (or PPTP) and set your ISP-spetcific identification.
Networking as such is too comprehensive to explain here. There are some really good how-to's, one is here
In short, it's not just a modem you have there. It is a complicated device (probably running Linux inside) which acts like a Internet router and DHCP server.
