Question Burn DVD ... ???

I was messing with Windows XP partitions and now everything is screwed up so im using Knoppix-STD my #1 recovery tool, to burn some mp3's. Now im like a pro with windows, but when it comes to linux.. im just like.....wow.. these colours scare me. So I need to know how the hell do I burn files onto a dvd. Does linux already come with software or do I have to download something. If I do have to download something, please please guide me through how to download it. Everylittle bit.
THX EVERYONE !!!

how to download k3b???? well it depends on your distro doesn't it?

in slackware you got to www.linuxpackages.net get k3b (there is a search tool top left) and dvd+rw-tools.

then upgradepkg --install-new *.tgz (while being root)

done

FC probably ships, but googling the two packages +"distro name" should also get you the proper downloads. Keep in mind a couple of things though:

if you are working of a boot disk, you may not be able to install software, or burn (especially if you only have one drive). In that case you might be better of to get a network connection (locally) and ftp into the linux box as a user that exists and then ftp the files you want.

Also, a USB stick might be reasonably painless.

i believe mandrake move (another bootable linux distro) comes with k3b pre-installed. if you have bandwidth/time it may be easier...

i just checked the knoppix-std website and it says that it comes with k3b too, so you may want to check that you don't already have it.

to run it, you should just be able to type k3b in a terminal window.
