Bluetooth Device not showing up?

I am using a debian version of 2.6.10 kernel. I have a Microsoft blue tooth usb adapter.

As per the the instructions in bluez.sourceforge.net. I downloaded all the required packages for blue tooth set up.
Doing a dpkg -l blue* lists the following
bluez-bluefw
buez-cups
bluez-firmware
bluez-hcidump
bluez- pan
buez-pin
bluez-sdp
bluez-utils

did /etc/init.d/bluez-uitls start
This started hcid, sdpd, rfcomm demons.
Doing a hciconfig did not display any info about the device.

I am not clear how to debug this.
I am new to Linux and blue tooth.
This is my 1 st email to the forum which i joined last week
Any suggestions will be really helpful

Thanks
kpsr

Moved: This thread is more suitable in a more technical forum like Linux-Newbie and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

There may be something interesting in the logs. Note down current time and run /etc/init.d/bluez-uitls start. Then look into /var/log/messages. There should be a number of messages from the daemons shortly after the time you started it. Please copy them (they may be also so clear that you may have no problems with solving it all).
