Question BIOS Setting - Plug & Play Aware OS...

Howdy!

I've noticed a few people around mentioning that they are setting the BIOS option 'Plug & Play aware OS' to false or off before installing Linux. I'm pretty sure my motherboard's BIOS also has this option, but I'm not sure what it is set to.

Is it advisable to set such an option off when running Linux on a machine? What implications / problems can it cause?

Regards - echelon

My advice would be to leave it alone. There are certain hardware configurations that have a problem if this is turned on but unless you notice a specific problem just leave it alone. I know that I had OpenBSD on a computer once that would freeze during boot if this option was on; if something like that is happening then turn it off. For the most part leaving it on will not hurt anything.

If you have trouble getting certain cards to work or can't get the system running right then turn it off -- just to be sure. But for the most part you don't need to touch it until you do. ;-)
