The obvious question for me would be, why don't you just physically plug the drive into the Windows system? Boot into xbmcbuntu there, and you should be able to mount/see the Windows drive. Copy the files there, using the disk controller itself, which will get you much better speed.
If you must do a network transfer, you have already indicated that you are using the gigabit wired connection, and Samba can often be slow. You may want to run a test on some different protocols, such as using putty from Windows to do an SCP/SFTP, or seeing if you can get an NFS client up on Windows.
