OK, got proftp installed and running on my rh 9 box- no problem. I can use wsftp pro on my windows box to transfer files back and forth.
But when I try to surf there using firebird (or mozilla) I either get a 503 error or a bad user error. When I try to go using IE, it asks me to log in and then gives me a "connection with the server was reset" error
When I have downloaded files from other ftp sites, I can always just open them no problem in whatever window I'm already using. Is this some interaction between apache and the ftp server I need to set up? Does IE have a little ftp client, but mozilla/firebird doesn't? Am I not understanding something basic?
Yes, I could just use any ftp client to transfer files, but I'm hoping to set it up so that some less than technical people at work will be able to use it. They will be using IE, IE for mac, and Safari (if it makes any difference).
I've got 2 usernames set with passwords, and neither one works.
I can post my proftpd.conf file if it might help.
But if it works using an ftp client, shouldn't it work using a browser?
I know Apache and ftp have nothing to do with one another, I just can't figure out why it would work with the ftp client and not a browser (and why it would give different but equally bad results using different browsers).
