bad magic number to open super block

Hi, Thank you bigrigdriver for your assistance. But I still have a problem. I run the command #mke2fs -n /dev/hda1 and got the locations of alternative superblock backup locations, but on running the command #e2fsck -f -b 32768 /dev/hda1 I get the error msg "bad magic numberin superblock while trying to open /dev/hda1" What coulb be the problem?

Tried another superblock location? BTW you can also run 'dumpe2fs /dev/hda1|grep 'Backup.s' instead of mkfs.
