backing up a directory to another hard drive

I have one directory that I'd like to automatically backup to another hard drive every night. Is there a way to do this inherent to the OS or, if not, can anyone recommend a minimalist app to do so?

The backup means of your choice - tar, cp, rsync, whatever. And cron to automate it.
