Hello, i have a huge problem i think and i do not know how to solve it.
yesterday i bought an ACER notebook with LINUX.
but i have to install my internet on the go flash disk to be connected to the internt (this is the reason i prefered linux) but i cannot run the autorun.exe files of my flash disk.
pppppppppppleeaseee!!! help me. i found something about "wine" i downloaded the 1.0.1 version i think but i don't know what else to do, how to install it...!
i'm desperate...

Question, what is this "autorun.exe" you want to run? As far as i can think, the auto-run service on a removable media is OS independent and therefore should run regardless. Unless you are talking of other windows based files which you have in your media and want to run them under linux. In this case you were on the right path running them under WINE which is an emulator and will run most exe's.

If its throwing any errors kindly post them here so that we can establish if its a wine problem----no pun intended.

PS whats is the connection to the internet and your flash disk? Unless you contracted a virus that masquerades as an autorun...

I'm not sure what you mean by install my internet on the go flash disk. Is this a pendrive that your ISP gave you?
Do you have Cable, DSL or dailup?
Do you have a nat router?

For cable modems, you may need to browse to your ISPs website or to the modem itself and activate it on the browser. If IE is required, you may need to call you Cable ISP so the modem can be provisioned manually.

For DSL, look in your distro's network device configuration wizard. There should be one for DSL. DSL needs a dailer to make a pppoe connection.
There are 3 or 4 types of DSL, so if your distro has administrator documentation, read the networking setup section.

If you have a NAT router, then the dailing is performed by the router. Configuring your networking to use DHCP would be the easiest. The IP address, netmask, gateway and nameserver addresses will be provided by the router or modem.

An autorun.exe program is for Windows. If this program is to configure networking, then you don't want to run it even in wine because you need to configure networking in Linux.

You probably is talking about a USB external 3G modem (HDSPA/UTMS) that install the drivers and the application to connect and configure your internet connection with your cell phone carrier (wireless internet provider), isn't ?

Well, wine will not help you in this case and that autorun.exe is not good for your linux, just for windows machines...

You need to use linux and it's tools to get connected on the internet using theses 3G modems.

What distro and what window manager are you using ?
Fedora and Ubuntu (among others) has on the top bar an icon named Network Manager. Network Manager can detect and configure internet connections, included 3G.
