Automaticaly sending user ID when printing to a network printer

I recentely followed these instructions to set up access to a network printer from my laptop:

"..add a new printer on your workstation with the following settings:
Queue type: choose "LPR/LPD/Networked Unix"
Server: "ep-ps-campus-01.oit.duke.edu"
Server-side queue name: "ePrint-OIT"
Workstation-side queue name: "ePrint-OIT"
Printer type: Use "HP LaserJet 9050" (or the closest equivalent)"

The instructions also said that when I want to send print jobs from my personal system, I need to include my NetID as a parameter to the lpr printing command both from the GUI and from the command line.

I would like to preform this in an automated way, so that when I send a print job from any program (for example document viewer) it will automatically send the username. How can I do that?

Thank you

Welcome to LQ!

If you have already installed the printer using CUPS, I would try:
1. Stopping the CUPS daemon.
2. Edit the CUPS printers.conf file and add the NetID to the device URI for your printer
Code:
DeviceURI lpd://<NetID>@ep-ps-campus-01.oit.duke.edu/ePrint-OIT
The syntax is connectiontype://username:password@server/printer
3. Restart the CUPS daemon
