apt-cacher-ng on ubuntu 11.10

Hi..Everyone,
I would like to configure apt-cacher-ng in ubuntu 11.10(64bit machine) which we are running as transparent squid proxy server.
So I just want to clarify that for this setup, should both server and cleints be having same version?
Because the client PC having different ubuntu version in different PC like ubuntu 10.04/10.10/11.04/11.10.
If the version doesn't matter and if any client can get the packages from this proxy server while the requested package is already exist in the server, I can go for this setup and can avoid the internet usage.
Thanks in advance for your kind help.

Both, server and clients can be used of different version. But the server should be of latest version.
Apt-cacher-ng caches the repo's from the different versions of ubuntu quite nicely. apt-cacher-ng is newer, faster, needs less resources and is better maintained than apt-cacher and apt-cacher-ng is already packaged in Ubuntu.
