apache2 folder 'var/www' is not shareable; can not edit the index.html file

I can not edit the index.html file available for use by the apache2 application. My operating system is UBUNTU and SUDO will not permit me to make folders shareable. Any ideas? Thanks.

What do you mean by "shareable"? By which means are you trying to
share it? And what is the rationale behind it?
