I'm looking for a VOIP service provider with phone number capabilities. Thou Skype is great and has great features, I'm unsure if it will be reliable on Ubuntu.
Are there any VoIP providers that support Ubuntu better than Skype ? (with phone number support)
Since Skype was purchased by Microsoft they are not providing much support for the Linux community and since Skype will be the new communicator service for all Microsoft products, including the next gen consoles and operating systems they are attempting to standardize something without providing support for it. They have attempted at a few releases but I haven't seen much come from them that indicates they care about the Linux community, most of the features they roll out are related to trying and add more Microsoft features into it.
This is just my opinion on Skype, no facts or figures to back it up.
Just to clarify, I'm looking to use a VoIP service to stay in touch with my relatives in the U.S. My understanding is that Skype offers U.S based phones numbers for a fee, and for an additional charge, I'm able to call a landline phone number as well as receive phone calls on skype (from landline). I'm looking for a company that offers a similar service, but that has more Linux support.
