Annoying Firefox

Alright everytime I download a file it adds the extension twice by default. I have to rename it every time and it's very annoying. Is there a solution to this problem?

I am using the newest Firefox 1.0.4

check tools-->options-->download.
see if installing the download manager tweak would be helpful.

It is a known bug with Firefox. You can get around it by using the Flashgot extension and adownload manager like Kget or Prozilla.
The Download tweak extension might help.
