alright heres the deal
im a full fledged n00b but ive been playing every day and learning boatloads about the system. ive tinkered around with linux and unix (solaris) before but now i decided to get into it full steam in an attempt to really learn whats goin on.
im running a fresh install of slack 9.1 with a newly compiled 2.6.1 kernel.
sound was configured with module support
bash-2.05b# modinfo soundcore
description: Core sound module
author: Alan Cox
license: GPL
alias: char-major-14-*
vermagic: 2.6.1 PENTIUM4 gcc-3.2
depends:
so i went and built everything and it all built just peachy but when i try to modprobe it i get this --
bash-2.05b# modprobe snd-intel8x0
WARNING: Error inserting snd_seq_device (/lib/modules/2.6.1/kernel/sound/acore/seq/snd-seq-device.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error inserting snd_rawmidi (/lib/modules/2.6.1/kernel/sound/acore/snd-rawmidi.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error inserting snd_mpu401_uart (/lib/modules/2.6.1/kernel/sound/drivers/mpu401/snd-mpu401-uart.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error inserting snd_timer (/lib/modules/2.6.1/kernel/sound/acore/snd-timer.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error inserting snd_pcm (/lib/modules/2.6.1/kernel/sound/acore/snd-pcm.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error inserting snd_ac97_codec (/lib/modules/2.6.1/kernel/sound/pci/ac97/snd-ac97-codec.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)FATAL: Error inserting snd_intel8x0 (/lib/modules/2.6.1/kernel/sound/pci/snd-intel8x0.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
and it does that for each module if i do the whole
modprobe snd-intel8x0;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;modprobe snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss
each module comes back with a FATAL error. im so lost
