Allright, changed root password and questions about adding users

Guys:

I changed the root password and I created another user for myself

Now, the user created is under the ID "500" and I am not sure if this is something I should have done or not

is that number reserved only for root ?

any help is greatly appreciated

Nope.

User and group IDs are pretty arbitrary (with exceptions), just don't reuse any that are already in /etc/passwd.

Tools and scripts that add users take care of these issues for you...
