After last upgrade Ubuntu does not start but boots into terminal

After last upgrade Ubuntu does not start but boots into terminal
After I installed the last upgrade for 12.04.2 LTS (GNU/Luntuinux 3.2.0-49-generic i686) computer boots into the terminal. This happened before but I don't remember how to fix it. I can't get back to Ubuntu home screen.
Thank you for your help and trouble yooy! startx worked and I will keep a note of this. There is so much to learn and a seventy-five year old is a little slow.
