actually printing after setup of cups, lp, lpr not happy

I'm using a new gentoo install and can't print.

I setup a printer and suceeded in printing the test page using cups by configuring at the localhost on port 631. I also made the printer the default. But now when I use lp or lpr they both say that there is no default printer. The printer is setup via IPP (it's a HP 4200).

Any suggestions. It's funny that the cups help has no info on actually printing, or if it does, I can't find it.

I don't know gentoo at all; could you possibly have more than one
printing subsystem installed, e.g. you configured CUPS but lp and
lpr belong to the lprng-package?

Tink,

Thanks for the idea. how could I tell that?

Actually, my lp man page strongly implies it is for cups.

As an example

lp -d netHP my.ps

hangs, even for simple .ps files.

Hard to say ... the first thing is always to locate cupsd.conf
and up the logging level to debug (or debug2), restart the daemon
and see what shows up.

Cheers,
Tink
