access to profiles in T'Bird and Firefox

I have use Mint 18 MATE for some time.
I had a power cut.
This rendered the sytmem unusable.
A friend who is no longer accessible did a new installation,
using Linux23 MATE,
Unfortunately he used a different user name, so now T'bird looks for that profile, rather than the original, whose files I believe are on the system somewhere.

How can I retrieve the old profiles!

Did your friend backup your home directory?
Was the drive complete erased prior to installation?
Did you have a separate home directory that was not erased when version 23 was installed?

If the drive was erased and no backup the profile may be lost. If you had a separate home partition that was kept intact then maybe.

I believe the fied from the old installation exist somewhere on the drive.

I am an utter newbie in Lixux as an OS.
I have just used Linux to access Third, Firefox and Libreoffice from menus

Posting the output of the following command might help:
lsblk

revmalc,

I hope you manage to salvage your old T'bird profiles, but I suspect that the 23 installation has overwritten everything.

This unfortunate experience highlights the importance of:

1. Having a backup system.

2. Having a separate Home partition.

3. Using a web-based email client, such as Proton Mail, instead of T'bird.
