Unhappy aaaargh still can't bluddy print

I've managed to get almost everything working under Slackware, but am a complete newbie and I can't get my computer to print (on a local printer).
Right now I've got KDE running, and I've tried almost all combinations of things with kdeprint, etc....
I've also looked everywhere on the web but all the help they give is with CUPS (in German).

When I change to CUPS mode my computer gives me an error message. I don't even know what the hell CUPS is!

How do I configure it so that it works as easily as it does in Windows? I really need to be able to print soon!

CUPS is the Common Unix Printing System - more info at if you are interested. I can' t say I've ever touched kdeprint so can't help on that one!
