Talking a few questions in installing a diff distro (slackware)

hello!!!

i am a newbie in linux and i have a few questions.

i have a laptop with dual boot vista and ubuntu 9.04. i am not too happy on ubuntu and now i am planning on installing slackware since i've read a lot of threads saying that i can learn more on slack.

What i am worried about is the GRUB. My question is:

If i format my Linux partition will it also remove the GRUB? or do I have to remove it manually?

THANKS A LOT!!!

No, formatting your Linux partition won't remove GRUB (assuming GRUB is on the disk's MBR). However, you can just install LILO (Slackware's default bootloader) on top of GRUB.

If all you're worried about is being able to boot your Slackware installation, then yes, just install LILO when prompted.

If you're getting rid of the old distro then you definitely should install lilo.

Also at least skim the install section of the slackbook, link in my sig. Otherwise you may get frustrated during the install.
