Exclamation A dump question in linux documentation.

Hi guys,

I am reading the Slackware Linux Essentials.

I've found they put the brackets with numbers behind file names or command names. What the numbers mean?

For example:

Quote:
LILO is quite a configurable boot loader. It's not just limited to booting Linux or DOS. It can boot just about anything. The man pages for lilo(8) and lilo.conf(5) provide more detailed information.

Thanks.

The reason the section numbers are included is that sometimes there are multiple entries... The "stat" name has an entry in section 1, as well as in section 2, and in 3P. Thus the tendency to specify which one for the topic being discussed.
