Hi there mates,


I've been here before, but it's been a while so i created a new account cause i forgot the username and pass. BUT ANYWAY....


I've got Ubuntu 7.04 Installed on my system, actually it's running of a cd right now, but I'm going to be setting up to Dual Boot soon here. I just wanna make sure everythings compatible before i go through w/ it.

I've been trying to connect to my wireless network with my laptop (the one with Ubuntu)

My problem is, I can't tell if it recognizes the card. I've got a tower with a wifi signal, but I'm not sure if that is the indicator that it's supported or not.

I THINK it is because i can check the box to enable it, and I can 'log in' to it to configure it (setting up WEP key and ESSID).

After it configures, it neither says i have connectivity or not; so I don't know if it's connecting.


I DO know though, that when i try to access the internet, that it doesn't work :P

When i look at the specs to see if everything is compatible, I kinda run into a snag. Why? Well, when i look for the details on my Wireless card, all i get is that it's a " Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter" Nothing More.


Is there something I'm missing here or...? The specs are listed at

Hello, try using lsmod instead of lmod. Also, in your original post.....

Use the command... that will get you the exact specs on your card....It should be towards the end, if not narrow it down with Hope that helps!

Do you get your problem solved. I get a similar problem. I am using Verizon DSL and Ubuntu. I try so many times but never can get Ubuntu to see my wireless. When I use Ms Window and WEireless, it works. Also, if I direct connect from Ubuntu to my DSM MODEM (a Westell Versalink Moodel 327W), it also works too.

You know, I am like 99% sure that I found the solution, but I can't be sure yet- let me explain.


I found out that the reason it wasn't working is because the Firmware for linux to recognize the card and switch it on wasn't there.

So i basically did a lot of searching, and finally found firmware from some site (users with the same problem and card).

As soon as I installed the firmware, the Light for my wireless came on...SWEET! Or so I thought...

Although the light turned on, the internet still didn't work. BUT, when I read some more online, they said that a lot of times (or usually anyway) you have to reboot for it to recognise it.

The problem with that is, I was running Linux off a CD, sooooo rebooting resets it and all the progress is gone >_<

I wanted to create a partion on my HDD, but I only have 3 Gigs left.

I've got a new HDD on order, as well as an external, and then I'll dual boot the system to see if it works then.
