I installed service pack 1 on my XP box and now I notice that the access times are really slow when connecting to my Linux box running SAMBA. Not some much when browsing shares, but when installing software from it. Has anyone else had similiar problems?
@!(*#*)!@ MS!
I wouldn't use XP on a network, I may play the odd game on it but if you need MS Office use W2K, it does the job and doesn't fall over as much as NT4 did, although by the time SP6a came out that was starting to look ok on the desktop even if it was still a dog in the machine room.
Can't say I've had a problem with xp and my linux box, browsing the web is quick and browsing/moving files from one to the other is the same as when doing it from xp to xp or 2k.
I haven't installed sp1 yet but after I installed sp3 on my 2k server I lost the ability to set permissions and see the file share properties, all I could do was to uninstall it.
