winbind in default mode

Hi All,
I'm using samba server with security=server.
my clients are mixed MS domain + workgroup users.

I have noticed that when winbind is down the authentication of samba with active directory is lazy. means that it takes about 7-15 seconds to open a share or a file.

When winbind is on samba smoothly authenticate users with no delays and open shares\files immediately.

All winbind articles show how to configure winbind which in first looks sounds a bit complicated.
However the winbind I'm just talking about is just installed and never touched his default parameters.

Can someone drop some light on the default mode of winbind ?
