Wifi problem old laptop w. Atheros_AR5BMB5

I have installed Lubuntu 14.10 on an old Toshiba Satellite L30 laptop and it works fine with a wired LAN connection. However, with wifi network performance is really bad. Sometimes web-pages take minutes to load, and I expect I have problems with packet loss. The question is if this is a SW problem or the hardware. I saw the same problem with an older Ubuntu release (I don't remember wich right now....), but since the computer is so low on resources I decided to install Lubuntu instead. Of course I've verified the wifi router works fine. Other laptops, phones, Chromecast etc. work perfectly!

Anyone aware of problems with this old wifi adapter and if there is a software fix anywhere around?

Problem solved. Disabling HW crypto solved my issue. Of course I should have tried my solving this by just a standard Google search. I must say I'm a bit puzzled Linux still experience such basic problems with WiFi. Thought this was solved for a long time ago....
