What is the linux equivlent of terminal services


Hi guys,

I am just about to install a new home server, at work i have been playing with windows terminal services and citrix. Now what want to know is, is there and remote x-windows/kde client.

You need X for Windows. Or you may try to play with PuTTY (it should have an option to forward X connections).

Xfree86 has native support for remote display, and the latest KDE has control center modules to manage remote connections.

Just formwarding X is not secure. X over ssh is secure, but it requires bandwidth. I guess VNC will be the best solution for you. It should be included in your distro, with documentation.

You can also try the Linux Terminal Server Project. It seems more geared for using dumb gui terminals.
