Warpinator and VPN

One of my boxes runs Mint, where I discovered the program "Warpinator" for file transfer.

Seems to work well, and fast, too.

However, it does not work if the boxes are connected to a VPN - not keen on this cuz lazy and don't want to have to reconnect to VPN....

Is there a way to set up the LAN and the VPN settings to get around this?

Clarification:
Can I connect to other boxes in the home LAN directly, without going out through the VPN?

Suggestions to use "Split Tunneling" don't work for this (and anyway who would want to file share across the Internet to send it to the next room?)

"Allow LAN" in the VPN settings doesn't help either.

VPN provider is not solving issue - those are its fixes

If you have ssh set-up, for local use only and preferably passwordless then you can use sftp which is just a secure version of old-fashioned ftp.

If you only have a few devices, you could setup /etc/hosts to allow you to address machines by ip address or hostname...
