vsftpd not running..i can connect ftp via anonymous..not able put/get files

I have used the VSFTPD rpm for FTP server...
when i type "service ftp(or)vsftpd start" It gives the message "Unrecogonized service". I have made the Xinetd entries correctly(disable=no).

I can access the FTP Server from other linux machine by the anonymous password.
(Remember i gave full access to anonymous user in the vsftpd configuraton file)

But i cannot put or get any files from the server. I am using Redhat 8 (server)
and vsftpd-1.1.0-1.

And My xinetd service also running...tell me the Solution..Thanks in Advance

For starting vsftpd try /etc/init.d/vsftpd start
make a folder inside the home folder for the anonymous user , give it access rights accordingly and put the files in that. You cannot upload files directly into the home folder of the anonymous user in vsftpd.
