VNC listening on all IPs

Hi All,

I created a Virtual machine running RHEL and have setup VNC & GDM to allow remote logins. This was all working fine. I then took a copy of the VM, used the Network administration tool to assign it a new hostname and IP. I can ssh in to both VMs and login fine. However, the problem I am finding now is if I try to connect via VNC the server that answers and presents a login seems to be the one which started the xinet.d service last, i.e. I can VNC in to the first box (using IP) but I get a login prompt for the second. It appears as if VNC is listening by port number but on any IP. I have obviously got something badly configured somewhere but I am not quite sure where to look. This is the contents of the vnc file in /etc/xinetd.d

# GDM Login resolution of 1024x768
service vnc2
{
disable = no
socket_type = stream
protocol = tcp
port = 5902
wait = no
user = nobody
server = /usr/bin/Xvnc
type = UNLISTED
server_args = -inetd -broadcast -geometry 1024x768 -depth 16 -securitytypes=none
}

This is my first post here so appologies if I am not explaining myself very well of giving enough information but any pointers would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Ben.

If you have two separate virtual machines it's not a problem with the setup of the virtual machines that's a problem with non-separation using whatever software you're using to virtualize them.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, but I think I have finally solved it. In the options I had -broadcast. This broadcasts for XDMCP so I guess this maybe why sometimes I would get a login for the other VM. I have now changed this to -query localhost so that it only looks locally for XDMCP and this seems to be working.

Thanks,

Ben.
