via-rhine ethernet card with 2.4.21 kernel
I have upgraded my Red Hat 9 system from the 2.4-20-8 kernel
to 2.4.21 by building the kernel source tar files.
Now my Via-rhine II ethernet driver no longer works
insmod via-rhine reports missing device init_module
with the module built from source contained in the
2.4.21 kernel source tar package
I downloaded updated source code for the via-rhine driver
dated 7/24/2003 from the SCYLD web site and compiled pci-scan and
via-rhine
The new version no longer generates any error message.
However , when the system boots and gets to the
loading eth0 section , I get a kernel panic error
and everthing dies.
When i reboot with eth0 disabled and
run insmod via-rhine the system totally locks up.
I buiilt the 2.4.21 kernel from source using
the gcc 2.95 compiler.
Red Hat has not released a RPM package for the
2.4.21 kernel , but it need the upgrade to run
Borland Kylix 3 C++ compiler.
Does anyone have any theories on how to fix this
problem so that I can get back on line to the internet?
Also the gnometoaster CD burner locks up the system
The two problems may be related.
