hi to all,
thanks for giving me an account (posting in) in linuxquestions.org.
i'm a linux newbie or intermediate.
this is my first posting on linuxquestions.org.
i have a linux on my (still alive) P1-150 MMX running red hat 7.3 with XFS filing system (not ext2 nor ext3) which i got from SGI.com. XFS filing system will be my future self-studies.
anyway, without going around the bush, my problem is not really on my filing system, i guess. i am 100 % sure that it would be a simple problem with a simple solution YOU GUYS KNOW already
.
this is it, the GIVEN and the PROBLEM :
- one time i ssh2 to my linux box using PuTTY 0.52 (2001)
- done via my PIII-500 windoze 2k adv svr computer
- i just had the need to do "/etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart"
now, when i "more..." or "cat /var/log/messages" as user root, i see the word `localhost' instead of the real hostname of my linux machine.
what happened?
what is the impact/implication in the future?
i don't just want to reboot my linux box. i want to know the proper "fix" if there is any and if it is really considered a fix.
thank you very much.
