Hi,

I have ldap server that will authenticates user logon. I need to know if there are commands from fedora 5 to determine users logon time and who are users currently online..

thanks for the reply...

who command it does not apply what I'm looking for.. As far as I know, it only determines users at the workstation that they logon but not the users who currently logs on and authenticates with the ldap server.

LDAP server is a query based server. It just gives the password when a query for a password comes in. They dont keeps any information about how many queries they answered and what are the queries. So i think you may not able to find how many users loged in via the ldap server.
If you are so curious then check for any third-party utilities.

The command 'who','w' etc are useful in individual machines but not in ldap server.

@aneeshk... what a very nice information.. I don't much really know about linux. I'm just playing around and fortunately, I was successfully installed ldap server and able to authenticate linux users. I want to know if there are tools or startup script that would do what I want to get. For now, I'm thinking of creating a bash script/startup script that would do the job. When certain user logon, a startup script.

Is there any other easy solution..

LDAP server is a database that may contains so many informations including usernames and passwords. When a user tries to login on a ldap client (the workstation), it sends a query for the password to the ldap server. LDAP server gives the password ...and thats the end. There is no further connection between the client and the server.
Ussually there is no users exists on client machines and so whenever a workstation needs an authentication, it sends a query to the ldap server. What I need to convey you is that....a single user loged in machine may send 100 or more password queries to the ldap server. How you write a script to identify loged in users ?
I am also waiting for anyone's positive reply on this problem...
