- hey guys i installed and configured vsftpd in our ubuntu. i tried to test it by using the ftp command and was able to connect using the account that i created. our ubuntu is were our DSL connection is configured and is also used for internet sharing for our windows network. i tried to connect the vsftpd server from a window computer in our network using a ftp sofware and the account that i created and was able to connect successfully. i ask a friend from an another office using a different ISP to connect to our vsftpd server using the account that i created but says that it cant conne ct. so my problem now is that users not from our network cant connect to our vsftpd server.
That is probably not a problem with your vsftpd.conf at all, but a network issue. You most likely have either a firewall or router configured on or in front of the vsftpd server. The firewall or router needs to forward ports 20 and 21 from the internet connection in to port 20 and 21 at the internal address of the LAN that the server is at.
If this server is acting as the router and firewall, then just change the firewall (IPtables) so that ports 20 and 21 are open, then it will be all set.
