USB Wireless Advice

I've having problems with a RTL8188EE Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01) ...

https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?f=107&t=40935

and have decided to say concede defeat and buy a USB wireless adapter.

I've narrowed the manufactures down to D-Link and Netgear.
(Although I'm still open to other suggestions ...)

D-Link:
1) http://us.dlink.com/products/connect...d-usb-adapter/
2) http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/home-solu...nd-usb-adapter
3) http://us.dlink.com/products/connect...0-usb-adapter/

Netgear:
4) http://www.netgear.com/home/products.../WNDA3100.aspx
5) http://www.netgear.com/home/products...ers/a6210.aspx

I would like to buy one of the dual band mode models however I'm worried about linux driver support.
Which leaves me with option #3 ....
Although I suppose I could exchange a dual band model because of driver issues.

I would appreciate any advice or suggestions experienced Linux users could provide to avoid any further driver difficulties.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Tom

I had an Ebay usb adapter for my RasPi 1 & it used a RTL 8188. I had to download a driver, but it ran fine after that. D-Link & Netgear are good brands. Choose by the wifi chip. I doubt you want another RTL8188 :-P. Security may also be a consideration.

Also, -IF- you want to see a 'zillion' attempts at ...CE (8192xx?), look here

Best wishes! Post what works out (&maybe add as comment to bb2's blog IF you buy that one)!

I recently added a usb wifi dongle to link across to another network to use the printer on it. I used this one as the chip is handled by the kernel so no need to play with adding kernel drivers. I don't have any connection with the company

https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/us2/USB-h...b++wifi+dongle

Other than getting it to do what you want it should work out of the box and no need to worry about what driver is needed.

Since installing I've improved it a little by fitting 2 cheap 7dbi aerials. Through 2 brick walls at about 45 degrees to the router I get better than the usual recommended min of -70dbi which is what it gave as supplied. It give around 65 or so now.

Any other make with the same chip should work. It didn't work so well plugged directly into my PC case probably down to the metal that's around. It's in a usb extension lead that has a small stand on the end which sits nicely on top of my monitor stand.
