understanding Samba

Hi,
I am a newbie. I would like to clarify my understanding on rpcclient, smbclient, smbmount, mount, cifs, smbfs:
rpcclient is used to control windows boxes
CIFS is same as SMB and its used by windows to share files to linux servers
SMBFS is used by linux to share files to windows servers
smbclient is used for connecting to remote shares & transfering files
smbmount is same as mount. Do these 2 commands come with samba
rpcclient, smbclient, smbmount comes with samba package.
Please correct if the above points are wrong.
Thanks in advance

No

CIFS (new) and SMBFS (old) are filesystems used by samba to connect to Windows shares or serve Linux shares to Windows clients .

mount is a essential linux command which has nothing to do with Samba in the first place.

smbmount comes with samba and is a convenience command which calls mount -t smbfs [...] or mount -t cifs [...] .
Anyway smbmount seems not to be present anymore in recent versions of Samba

Have you read this?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server_Message_Block

samba is the re-implementation of the Microsoft SMB/CIFS protocols (quoted from wikipedia) so that linux can share files and printers with windows. All the utilities mentioned except for mount are part of the samba suite.

samba is a client/server application. smbd/nmbd are the server daemons so that windows PCs can connect to linux files and printers. smbfs/cifs filesystem types, smbclient, smbmount are client utilities so that a linux PC can connect to windows shares and printers.
