Question Unable to define RH7.3 hostname

Greetings everyone,

I've got a newly installed RH 7.3 Linux box connected to my Linksys 4 port router. When I access my router's config screens and view the DHCP Clients Table, my Linux machine is there (I can see the MAC / IP address), but the hostname is missing. Where do I define that within Linux?

I'm trying to make my router associate a domain name with my Linux box so I can access it within my LAN by domain name, instead of IP address. (via a web browser, etc.)

Any ideas would be very appreciated.

NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=localhost.localdomain
Here's how that file looks:
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME='mydomain.com'

But in the DHCP clients table, the Client Hostname entry is blank. I would have expected it to have mydomain.com in that field.

Might be a stab in the dark, but
is the Lynksys router using identd to collect local hostnames?

If so, do you have an identd daemon running on the Linux box?

Regards,
Peter
