All of your tries, so far, are the same I'd have test and cannot figure out what's happening.
What I'd do, just to make sure that no option is left undone, is using a Live Distro and check if I can connect with it so that I can define if it's a hardware or software problem.
Distribution: ubuntu 10.04.4 and older ones as well, Fedore core, Debian, CentOS

I am now speaking to you from mail1 server that has this issue using an Ubuntu 12.04 desktop LIVE CD.
It has to be a software issue, some config file setting that I have missed or something.
Well, at least we know what kind of enemy to face!
Let's start from the beginning and make a checklist of what to reset do default settings included resolv.conf, network configuration and every program in use that can interfere in networking.

Okay I will do some google searches, checklist, etc.
I have several services running like:
BIND9 acting as a forwarding only DNS
Postfix with AMAVIS, Postgrey, clamav, ...
I will start working on my list and will report back.

I am just starting and wanted to post a list of service --status-all
I thought this might be a good place to start. If you guys have other suggestions about how to tell which of these might cause issues so I can reset them.
