traceroute not working behind linksys router

Hi, I have a Suse 8.2 Linux machine behind a linksys 4-port (non-wireless) router. I can't get traceroute to work. I saw in another thread that some others had this same problem (here's a link to that thread):

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...te+not+working

They went on to say the problem is in the fact that "traceroute" is using UDP. The wireless linksys router blocks that by default and by changing the UDP packet and having traceroute using ICMP, basically we can trace out of the network. the command for changing UDP to ICMP is:

traceroute -I <destination IP>

but on my machine the -I flag doesn't do that. Also, I'm not using a wireless router so maybe all of this is different for me.

Any ideas on how to get traceroute to work? thanks.
