to detect equipement on network


hello

i want to know if any one have any commands or a shell script which can help me to detect equipement on network automatically,

On the basis of what can we know the equipments which belong to the same network?

I take it you want to discover other hosts on your network? Program called nmap does that, but being a discovery, scanner tool, make sure you obtain appropriate authority before you use it. Some employers may not appreciate you using it.
