TightVNC was working, ditched root, now the old grey screen of nothing

Had Tightvnc server working, booted up gnome first time, then i read about how i must not vnc as root, so i changed it to a normal user, now i have lost gnome.
i cant remember how to get it back.

the vnc file is still set to
gnome-sesson &
which is very confusing. and the vnc still seems to be booting into root..
see pic.

under the user folder in the home directory (e.g. /home/user) there should be a .vn file with some stuff add gnome-session & to it and that wil start up when you VNC in as that user.
